Shear Cut Pear Dish

Description

A bonus addition to the shear-cut series of holly bowls I made earlier this year. A pear bowl with a natural wiped urushi finish and turned on a pole-lathe. Pear is very similar in density and feel to the waxiness of holly, and I was pleased to be able to perform the same scraping cut on the outer surface of the bowl. The urushi finish really highlights the toolmarks, particularly the sunset/scallop shell/paw print in the bottom of the inside of the bowl.

(Care Instructions – No dishwashers, no microwaves, and avoid metal scourers and soaking for long periods of time. Urushi also degrades in direct sunlight so store in the shade)
