Oak Branch Plate

Description

When I was about to turn this plate on my pole-lathe, I noticed a small knot in the side. Experience tells me to not worry about these little ones, they’ll turn away. However, you can never have enough experience, and sure enough this one didn’t disappear, but kept on going though the quartersawn slice. For over 100 years this tiny sliver of a broken off branch survived, and over time it was swallowed by the later growth rings. Finally it has been captured front and back of this plate in memory of oak’s resilience. I’d love to say I meant it, but not in this case!

Where the knot exists in the surface of the plate a fissure has opened up, so it is by far the perfect eating plate, but it could still be used for a variety of purposes.

Sourced from Tetbury, this plate is finished with Treatex Hardwax Oil, and approx 12″ diameter.
